Good editing starts with a good source image. These habits make product photos easier to edit and give better final results.
1. Use even, soft lighting
Harsh shadows and hot spots are hard to fix. A window with diffused light, or a simple softbox, gives clean, even results.
2. Keep the background plain
A plain, contrasting background makes cut-outs more accurate, especially around fine edges.
3. Shoot at the highest quality you can
Higher resolution gives more room to crop, retouch and resize for different marketplaces.
4. Clean the product first
Dust, fingerprints and lint are quick to wipe off the product and slow to retouch afterwards.
5. Be consistent
Use the same angle, distance and lighting across a product range so the whole catalogue looks unified.
